Abstract

The United Nations proclaimed 2019 the International Year of the Periodic Table of chemical elements. The paper presents the work of Dmitry I. Mendeleev which resulted in the periodic law and in the arrangement of elements into a table in the form we use today. The history of discoveries of the elements is briefly presented. Also, the relationship between chemistry and history, geography, physics, biology, and literature, including particular ideas for teaching, is discussed.
